Locations

During our filming, we're going to choose certain locations that suit our songs genre and mood of song (sad, happy etc). Because of the band that we are making our music video on - Moonbootica are an electronic band which have a gothic style, we are going to show locations of where we are going to take shots for our music video here. (at a later date when we start filming, we are soon going to add pictures and videos to the blog to show the locations that are going to be shown in our music video)

Possible things that might go wrong when filming, and how to avoid this!

While filming, there are some things that our group will have to look out for when filming the music video. Here are some main things that we will have to look our for when filming:

  1.  On some occasions, some people don't turn up for filming: The way this can be avoided is to give the actors a plan/schedule when the key dates for filming are and where the meeting point for filming is going to be to ensure it's all organized.
  2. The film could run out meaning you won't be able to film any more until you have a 2nd tape this could lead to falling behind on work: We can avoid this by keep a spare tape on us at all times, this means that the filming wont be cut short/we won't miss any of the important shots on that day of filming.
  3. Usually a day of filming and acting requires a lot of energy and effort from both filming crew and acting crew. Sometimes, either one of the crews may not have the "effort" to do some things: To make sure the crews have energy, we should give them food, pay for their lunch and drinks etc so they don't go the whole day hungry and feel welcomed.
  4. Sometimes, the group may forget to bring their props for the music video: this could be avoided by keeping all the props and costumes together (in one box or bag) instead of them being spread all over the place.
  5. Sometimes, because it's hard to get lighting in natural places, you may meet up too late to get the right lighting that you want and therefore, if you're filming the same location but on different days, the color of the shot may change: a way to avoid this (relying on the weather to be the same), the group should have to meet up an hour before the actual shooting time to ensure everyone is there and everything is ready to go as soon as the correct lighting is available to shoot in.
  6. The battery on the camera can sometimes not be fully charged and could lead to the group missing out of shooting some of the parts on the day that they could of: a way to avoid this is to leave the camera on charge the night before filming to make sure you have a full battery life. Another thing you could do is bring a spare battery that is already fully charge so you can film for even longer.
  7. Sometimes the group can have disagreements which can lead to arguments at the wrong time (during filming) which are crucial moments to work as a team rather than co-operating with each other: a way to avoid this is to create a day plan which is going to happen during the filming and what is going to be filmed rather than planning the filming and what is going to happen during the filming. This can also be done by sticking to the storyboard.

Props/Costumes

During our music video, we are going to use props and costumes to show the stars personality and to reflect on the song. These will also be used to make the performance look good as it won't be as basic as just someone standing on the screen just singing. The props and costumes that will be used will relate to the lyrics of the song. For example, the song name is 'Pretty Little Angel' so our group might include some Gothic angel wings that the girl performing in the video will be wearing while performing. Here's a list and some photos of examples of props and costumes that our group are going to include in our music video.

  • Gothic angel wings
  • Black and white paint (maybe some other colors) that are going to be smudged over the performers body giving it a sexual effect and view for the audience
  • Handcuffs
  • Red or black lipstick (for both performers the boy and girl) - this can make it look unusual for the target audience but again, it portrays the "Gothic" theme of the song.

With these props and costume, our group will be able to make the music video look more professional for our audience and will not make the music video look basic with no thought put into the music video.

Here are some examples of props that we're going to use in our music video:

To do list.-For our group

Date: 21/11/2012. A Wednesday.

We are currently working on our storyboard, costumes, props list, location list and just finalizing everything we need before shooting our post-grunge/alternative rock music video. Before we start shooting our music video, we have to make sure we are fully ready and planned, so that nothing can go wrong while we are shooting. One main meeting we need to have is a cast meeting, we need to start organising a cast for our band, and for our characters in the narrative of our music video. We need to start thinking of props, and how we can get them for our music video. The four main props in our music video are: Drums, guitar, electric guitar, microphone for our band.

In our school there is a music and drama department, we were considering asking nicely if we could use some of the music instruments from that area, and we were also considering performing in the drama department, but of course we have other location options for back-up, but that is our first idea. So we need to ask for permission before we can borrow the drums, guitars, microphone etc.

Searching for possible costumes, for our band

As for our music performance we'll be need costumes, our group has been looking for various costumes from the internet to fancy dress shops. We came across some interesting things but a lot of the costumes were overpriced or just too expensive for our budget. Due to this, our group is going to look on some websites that have used costumes so we don't have to spend a stupid price for one. Our budget per costume would be around 10-50 pounds as we thought that's a reasonable price and anything over would be too much considering we also need more things that just costumes (props, makeup etc.)

Questionnaire and Audience Findings

With this questionnaire this is what we found out.  Pop is the most popular genre of music, however
Electronic (our genre) isn't exactly popular but it's not least either. Many people prefer electronic to metal, urban and classical, so it isn't completely un popular. I don't mind these results, because I know that there are people out there who would appreciate and enjoy our electro-house music video, and we both wanted to take risks.

Shot Types In Our Music Video

In our music video, we are going to include many different shots to present not only the star of the music video, but also the band. The different type of shots that we are going to include are:

Audience Research

Audience Research

In class we designed a questionnaire thinking about gender, age and demographics. The first questionnaire we designed was only a brief one. But later on we are going to make a even better one and try it on many people, to help us find what sort of people would be likely to watch our music video.

 Audience Pleasures

It is important that when making a music video you think about your target audiences wants and needs. It's no good if a music video isn't keeping your audience emotionally engaged and attracted.
The audience needs to feel a connection, and therefore they will automatically want to watch more and more and so on. Usually a narrative that includes either humour, or love can be a real emotional pleasure to an audience.

A music video needs to be constructed well for its audience, and have a physical effect.
Sometimes an audience likes a bit of a puzzle, something which isn't straight forward.
If the audience have to figure out your music video, and what it is about, then they will
most likely want to watch it more than once.

It is crucial to give your audience what they want , and to know how to keep them
satisfied.  I would say being fun and adventurous would be a start.

Music Videos That Have Influenced Our Group

There are some music videos that have influenced our group for creating the pitch idea. Our group looked at many different music videos and were inspired by them. Here are some examples of music videos that our group was inspired by which helped us create the idea of our pitch.

Seether - Truth

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit

The most inspirational genre that our group has found is grunge rock. We have been influenced by many grunge rock bands due to their styles and how they perform in music videos. We normally found that there was also a narrative behind the video which could relate to real-life every day situations.
